National History Day in South Dakota: It’s Not Just A Day, It’s An Experience

2011 Theme: Debate and Diplomacy in History

2012 Theme: Revolution, Reaction, Reform in History

National History Day allows students in grades 6-12 to explore a theme in history. During the 2008-09 school year, the SDHC began assisting the South Dakota Agricultural Heritage Museum with coordination of NHD in South Dakota.

Students prepare projects in groups of up to five or as individuals through a:

 

  • documentary
  • exhibit
  • performance
  • paper
  • website

History Day 2011

The 2011 High School competition for National History Day took place on Saturday, April 16 at South Dakota State University.  Students in grades 6-12 participated from schools around the state.  Students presented their projects to judge panels in the areas of Documentary, Research Paper, Performance, Website, and Exhibit.  Judges ranked projects with the top two in each category chosen to compete at the national level in College Park, Maryland, in June.

History Day 2012

The State Competition for History Day will be Saturday, April 14, 2012 on the campus of South Dakota State University in Brookings, SD. The National Contest will be at the University of Maryland June 12 - 17, 2012.
