Learn. Share. Think. Discover.

The humanities exist to help us discover and define what it means to be human. We invite you to join the discussion and take part in humanities programming in your area. All of our major events are free and open to the public, so don’t miss out—get involved in your community today!

Not sure how to get involved? Here are just a few ways:

  • Listen to top authors from around the state and country as they discuss writing, reading, and authorship at our annual Festival of Books.

  • Start a book club, read Dan O’Brien’s Buffalo for the Broken Heart, and join in on the statewide discussion in our One Book South Dakota program.

  • Students can write a letter to their favorite author in our Letters About Literature program.

  • Apply for a grant to get your humanities-centered project or event off the ground.

  • Students can learn about what it means to be a citizen of this great country in our We the People program.
